For those of you who don't know me, I have a crazy piecing method that's fast fun and fabulous, that I first used when I designed as Buggy Barn, and which I now continue as One Sister. It's a stack, cut, shuffle, and piece-it-all-back-together method and is lots of fun! And I do have demos on my homepage: just hover over the DEMO tab and click to select which demo you'd like to view. (Any of my books with "Crazy" in the title uses this method of piecing). I selected this Sew Crazy Stars block from the Crazy Favorite Things book and I think it's a great way to showcase Shayla's Good Vibes Only fabric! I added a black and white checkerboard sashing and binding that just makes those blocks pop! Some serious good vibes :-)
A candy cane binding is a fun way to finish a quilt, whether its a red and white striped binding for Christmas, or this fun black and white combo! And its a snap to make! Here's how I do it:
1. Cut 2-1/2" strips of your two color choices.
2. Stitch the strips together lengthwise, alternating colors, black, white, black, white to make a strip set with about 8 strips.
3. Cut your bias binding strips as shown below:
I hope you're having as much fun on this tour as I am! And the fun continues so just check out the schedule below and click on the links for each day and it'll be Good Vibes Only coming your way! I have to share that Shayla's grandma, MaryEllen is a good friend and it's been so much fun to see how successful Shayla has been, first as a pattern designer, and now as a fabric designer! So congratulations Shayla, and keep up the great work!
Windham Fabrics has graciously offered some fat quarters for give-aways and I will add my Crazy Favorite Things book! The giveaway is open until 12am CST on June 24, 2019, and is open to US residents only. Void where prohibited by law. Just comment below for a chance to win!

Your quilt turned out great. And what a clever idea for the candy cane binding! Thanks for sharing your tutorial.
ReplyDeleteThe brights give an entirely different perspective to your designs. They work so well with the earthy tones, but these brights give them a shine.
ReplyDeleteLove this bright and happy quilt. I think I made a small quilt with buggy barn stars. Now I have to go find it. Love the candy cane binding. Will definitely try that sometime. ckrutjo at g mail dot com (since I don't know if I'm "anonymous" or not!

ReplyDeleteOh my, that is a wonderful quilt! The Sew Crazy Stars block is great fun. I used to make the Buggy Barn a destination every year when on my way through Reardan to a family reunion at Two Rivers. Attending the reunion is just not the same without that "quilt time" at the barn with my special sis-in-law, but following your blog gives me a bit of the craziness back. I love your One Sister designs and wish you all the best as you continue to create.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful crazy quilt. I love bright colors!
ReplyDeleteLove all those colors, makes me smile
