Easiest Quilt Ever!

I have long admired the work of Yoko Saito, both her quilt and fabric designs, and I was so excited she  designed this panel that I could turn into a quick and beautiful quilt!  It does require two panel pieces so that you can get all four border pieces.

Here's what I did:  Carefully cut the floral borders away from the center squares.  Cut the four floral borders to 7" wide, removing the selvages (Note:  I do typically remove a bit more generous portion of the selvage, but I didn't want to loose the flower stems in the seam allowance.). Add a 2" strip of contrasting green inner border to the top of each of the four floral borders, then add to each side of the center.

Fussy cut four 8-1/2" corners from the remaining center panel, and stitch to each side the the two remaining borders. Then add to the center as shown in the photos below.  Add a 5" plaid outer border to complete the quilt top.

Quilt as desired, and presto!  A beautiful quilt for you to enjoy!  If you are interested in purchasing a kit for this quilt, you can find them HERE.  A blue option is also available.
Easy, quick and beautiful!
Enjoy!

Good Vibes Only Blog Tour

Today is my day to share my project with you on the Good Vibes Only Blog Tour, hosted by Shayla Wolf of Sassafras Lane Designs.  Shayla is the designer of this bright and sunny line from Windham Fabrics that is sure to make you smile!  I'm so happy to be a part of this tour and to spend a bit a time with you!

For those of you who don't know me, I have a crazy piecing method that's fast fun and fabulous, that I first used when I designed as Buggy Barn, and which I now continue as One Sister.  It's a stack, cut, shuffle, and piece-it-all-back-together method and is lots of fun!  And I do have demos on my homepage: just hover over the DEMO tab and click to select which demo you'd like to view.  (Any of my books with "Crazy" in the title uses this method of piecing). I selected this Sew Crazy Stars block from the Crazy Favorite Things book and I think it's a great way to showcase Shayla's Good Vibes Only fabric!  I added a black and white checkerboard sashing and binding that just makes those blocks pop! Some serious good vibes :-)

A candy cane binding is a fun way to finish a quilt, whether its a red and white striped binding for Christmas, or this fun black and white combo!  And its a snap to make!  Here's how I do it:

1.  Cut 2-1/2" strips of your two color choices.
2. Stitch the strips together lengthwise, alternating colors, black, white, black, white to make a strip set with about 8 strips.
3.  Cut your bias binding strips as shown below:

I hope you're having as much fun on this tour as I am! And the fun continues so just check out the schedule below and click on the links for each day and it'll be Good Vibes Only coming your way!  I have to share that Shayla's grandma, MaryEllen is a good friend and it's been so much fun to see how successful Shayla has been, first as a pattern designer, and now as a fabric designer! So congratulations Shayla, and keep up the great work!

Windham Fabrics has graciously offered some fat quarters for give-aways and I will add my Crazy Favorite Things book!  The giveaway is open until 12am CST on June 24, 2019, and is open to US residents only.  Void where prohibited by law.  Just comment below for a chance to win!

Thanks much for stopping by!
Hope to see you again soon!

Needle Turn Applilque

Ah, Summer!  Time to enjoy those lazy, crazy, sunny days, and for me, it means picking up some applique to take along with me!  This is a picture of Crazy Peels, which will be included in my next book, Drive Me Crazy.  The background is all crazy pieced, with orange peels appliqued on top.

When I applique, I like to use the needle turn method.  I use freezer paper to transfer the motif to the right side of my fabric, then I turn the line under and stitch.  It is the same stitch you use to stitch down your binding, if you stitch it by hand.  I've always said "If you can bind, you can applique!"  Here is a quick video of how I stitch and what I do at points.  If you'd like more tools, tips, and how-tos, my old applique videos are still up on You-Tube at the following links:

My high school son was using a camcorder without a tripod, so you may get a bit sea-sick as you watch, but there is TONS of great info in these videos.  Enjoy!

Start your engines!

And we're off!  Happy New Year everyone!  What is it about the start of the New Year that really gets my motor running?  I'm ready to tidy every surface, clean every closet, and get that sewing machine humming! And maybe even get back to blogging!  Sorry to have been gone so long!  So what are you working on?  Have you started a new project, or maybe finishing up an old one?  I must admit to a bit of both!  Since the girls just finished cutting these kits, I had hoped to be working on these house blocks from "Happiness Is" the fifth project in my One Crazy Sister Club, but Gloria offered, and since I have a deadline looming for the next group of club projects and fabrics, she gets the honor!

Have you joined the fun?  There's still plenty of time to get started in this New Year!  Join the fun now at your local quilt shop, to meet other "Crazy Sisters"!  Don't have a participating shop close?  You can order kits on my site, or let me know if you'd like to be placed on autoship! To see the rest of the projects, go to my home page www.onesisterdesigns.com  After piecing each project, you will save the extra blocks you make to use in the finale quilt, "Crazy Good Life" shown here.

Or maybe a Block of the Month will fit more smoothly into your life?  A bit of crazy piecing and a bit of applique to take when you're on the go makes this "Rise N Shine" kit a perfect solution.  This kit is packaged in 12 blocks: 4 crazy pieced months and 8 applique months.  From the book, Half Crazy.  Are you going to Road to California later this month?  This quilt, and 3 more of my quilts will be in Carriage Country Quilts's booth!

And I will be there:
Thursday January 24, 2019 at 2:00pm
to sign your book purchases!
Hope to see you there!

Mark Your Calendars!
I will have a booth at
Sew Expo in Puyallup, WA
February 29 - March 3, 2019
Washington State Fairgrounds

And other exciting news, I will be participating in the

Greater Spokane Area Shop Hop
April 25 - 27

so for 3 DAYS ONLY I'll be throwing open the old Buggy Barn doors!  Come on out to shop and visit!

Barn Stars quilt from Udder-ly Crazy book!

Here's hoping we get to visit and spend a bit of time together sometime during this brand new year!  Let's make it a great one!  Wishing you a year filled with many blessings!
